A session on Gender Sensitivity by DHEERA Organisation For Class IX and XI (2022-23)

St Aloysius Gonzaga School organized a training session for students of Class IX and XI on 1 st February 2023 on the topic “Gender Sensitivity”. Ms Rathna Pinto, Ms Carol Pais, Ms Vidya Shenoy and Ms Preetham Kamath were the resource persons for the session. It was organized by DHEERA, VAW (Violence Against Women) which was initiated by Dr. Shantha Kumari of Hyderabad, FOGSI President in 2016. FOGSI stands for Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology of India. It’s done all over India in collaboration with Avni, an NGO & funded by UNICEF.

The dignitaries were welcomed by the teachers Ms Ashwini Shaina Lewis for Class IX and Ms Tanuja Domber for Class XI.

The session was initiated by our Principal Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo S.J by stating that safety of women is very important and equal opportunity in the society for women needs to be given. The students have to be given insights on Gender sensitivity at their younger age so that they learn to respect each other.

The session was then lead by the resource persons Ms Ratna Pinto and Ms Carl Pais for Class IX and Ms Vidya Shenoy and Ms Preetham Kamath for Class XI. They highlighted on the objectives of DHEERA and its role in the society. They also spoke on various issues related to Gender Sensitivity and how the violence against women could be stopped in different areas. The students were also given insights on how to be safe in the society and show respect to each gender. The students interacted well with the resource persons in clarifying their queries.

Ms Shilpa Ballal proposed the vote of thanks for Class IX and Ms Sheethal Roshelle Dsouza for Class XI. The session was compered by Ms Shruthi K and Ms Deepa Karkada.
