Faculty Development Programme on 'Harnessing Artificial Intelligence tools for innovative teaching and learning.'

St Aloysius Gonzaga School conducted a two-day Faculty Development program on "Harnessing AI Tools for Innovative Teaching and Learning" on 5 and 6 October 2023, aimed at empowering teachers with AI tools to streamline administrative tasks, save time and enhance student engagement in the classroom.

The program featured two resource persons, Mr Royal Praveen Dsouza, an Assistant Professor at St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangalore, and Mr Reji P John, also an Assistant Professor at the same institution. The Principal of the school, Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ, extended a warm welcome and introduced the resource persons. In his introduction, he emphasized the significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential to create a more conducive learning environment for both teachers and students.

Mr Royal Praveen Dsouza initiated the program with an overview of Artificial Intelligence, including its various aspects such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and applications like Google Images to Text. He also delved into the use of ChatGPT and its two versions, along with Google Bard.

Subsequently, Mr Reji P John took the lead, focusing on three key elements of AI tools: presentation, evaluation, and research orientation. He introduced several AI tools and explained how they can effectively engage students during class or presentations. Mr John emphasized the purposes of AI tools in the field of education.

The second day of the program was dedicated to hands-on training, during which the teachers were guided by the resource persons on the effective use of AI tools. This practical session provided teachers with valuable experience in using these tools and covered topics such as teaching about AI, evaluating and employing AI educational tools, and harnessing AI for student assessment.

Ms Smitha Amanna served as the session's compere, and the resource persons were introduced by Ms Carol Tina Rodrigues. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Jyothi Arvind.
