A session on Vedic Mathematics

St Aloysius Gonzaga School organised a session on Vedic Mathematics for the students of classes VI to VIII  on 12 October 2023. The session was conducted by Mr. Avinash Daniel Dsouza, Lectuer of Department of Mathematics, St Aloysius P U College, Mangaluru. Ms Laurel Dsouza welcomed and introduced the resource person.

Mr Avinash began the session with a captivating magic trick puzzle that piqued the interest of the students and left the audience both amazed and curious. The resource person elaborated on the origin of Vedic mathematics and underscored the significance of learning this ancient system of mathematics. He also shared that dedication, practice and hard work are the three key points on becoming a "human calculator".

He introduced the students to some key Vedic mathematics tricks, including doubling the number, the 10-point circle, the 9-point circle, multiplication by series of 9 etc, which enable them to perform mathematical operations rapidly and accurately. The students thoroughly enjoyed the techniques of speedy calculation. He gave various examples and in-hand practice to the students to grasp the tricks spontaneously. At the end of the session, the secret behind the magic trick puzzle was unveiled. This revelation left students with a sense of awe.

The session on Vedic mathematics was a captivating experience, providing students with insights into the world of Vedic mathematics and practical skills for improving their mathematical abilities.
