St Aloysius Gonzaga School hosted the Annual Sports Day for Classes VI to XII on 17 November 2023, at Mangala Stadium. National Athlete Ms Flarvisha Velisha Monteiro was the Chief Guest and Fr Vishwas Misquith SJ, Secretary and Treasurer, Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society, presided over the event. The other dignitaries were Principal, Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ, Vice-principal Ms Laurel D’Souza, the Conveners Ms Agnes Saldanha, Mr Vinod MP.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a majestic procession led by Master Leroy Rodrigues, encompassing a grand march past, flag-raising ceremony, house inspections, and a prayer delivered by the school choir. The symbolic arrival of the Torch bearers and the ceremonial ignition of the flame filled enthusiasm in students, highlighting their genuine sportsmanship. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Ms  Dale Aldeen Cutinha, the Sports Vice-prefect.

Ms Flarvisha Velisha Monteiro declared the meet open and said “The path to success is not always being first. Sometimes we end up being second or third and sometimes we fail to perform. When we fail, we learn to perform better”.  Track events 100mtr, 200mtr, 400mtr, 800mtr,1500 mtr running, shot put throw, discus throw, long jump, high jump and relay were conducted. Ms Vidya Esther proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Shruthi compered.

The Valedictory ceremony was held in the afternoon which was graced by Fr John D Souza, Director of St Aloysius ITI. The ceremony included Ms Laurel D’Souza welcoming attendees, and Chief Guest Fr John D’Souza SJ delivering a motivational message, by urging students to inculcate discipline in life, so as to achieve a lot. He wished all the students a grand success today and in forth coming years. Principal congratulated the Conveners and the Physical Education Teachers Mr Aditya Shetty and Ms Asha for their meticulous planning and resounding success of the event.

Winners received medals, certificates, and trophies during the ceremony. Ms.Tanuja Domber proposed the vote of thanks. The spirited sports day concluded with the lowering of the flag by Mr Vinod and the National Anthem. The event left students with them a tapestry of cherished memories.
