St Aloysius Gonzaga School hosted its Annual Sports Day for Classes VI to XII on 6 November 2024, at Mangala Stadium. National athlete Mr Rithesh Kumar Shetty was the Chief Guest and Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, Rector, St Aloysius Institutions presided over the event. Other dignitaries present included Principal Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ, Vice Principal Ms Laurel D’Souza and the conveners Ms Agnes Saldanha and Mr Vinod MP.

The opening ceremony began with a disciplined march-past led by Sports Prefect Master Saatwik Nayak Sujir, followed by the flag-raising and house inspections, which showcased the students’ unity and dedication. The event commenced with a prayer by the school choir, setting a respectful tone for the day. The torchbearers then arrived and lit the flame, a symbol of perseverance and dedication, igniting the spirit of sportsmanship. Sports Vice Prefect Ms Niharika S. Rai administered the oath to the students.

Mr Rithesh Kumar Shetty declared the meet open and emphasized the importance of active participation. Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ highlighted that students should persist and keep trying until they achieve their goals rather than feel frustrated by setbacks.

Track events included the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m races, as well as shot put, discus throw, long jump, high jump, and relay events. Fr Melwyn Anil Lobo SJ welcomed the gathering, Ms Vidya Esther compered and Ms Shilpa Ballal proposed the vote of thanks. During the Valedictory ceremony, Ms Laurel D’Souza warmly welcomed the attendees. Chief Guest Fr Johnson Pinto SJ, Correspondent and Headmaster, St Aloysius Highschool in his message encouraged students to take up sports as it helps to develop equity and team spirit. The winners were awarded with certificates and medals.
