The members of the Sahaya and Eco club collaborated with the students St Aloysius College on 11 August 2024 to carry out a Plantation drive at Daregudde, Moodbidri.
The plantation drive was coordinated by Mr Mark Pereira, a Lecturer in St Aloysius PU College. The students were accompanied by the incharge teachers, namely Ms Deepa Karkada and Ms Sushmitha Rachael of Eco club and Ms Tanuja Domber and Ms Lavanya Shetty of Sahaya club along with some volunteers. The students arrived mid-morning and were greeted with a light breakfast. Then they were guided by forest officers who demonstrated the proper technique for planting saplings. The officers also took the opportunity to educate the students on the benefits and importance of trees, emphasizing the crucial role they play in maintaining ecological balance and supporting the environment.
Despite the sweltering afternoon sun the students managed successfully with the goal of planting 250 saplings. The students fulfilled their duty as devoted citizens who show empathy for the environment and expressed gratitude to Mother Nature. After lunch the students were addressed by the forest officers and were also commended for their hard work and dedication. Some students then shared their experiences and key takeaways from the day.
The school is thankful to RFO: G D Dinesh, DYRO: Kavya R, Beat forester: Dharmaraj and Forest Watcher: Janardhan, who not only provided the students with this opportunity but also guided them every step of the way.
The program was a huge success and the students left with a newfound appreciation for the effort involved in growing and maintaining local forests.
