A session on psychosexual development
Psychosexual development is the influence that sexual growth has on person during adolescent stage. This important transition period requires appropriate guidance to create an identity in the society as a matured adult and embrace the responsibilities in the later stages of life. Keeping this in mind, St Aloysius Gonzaga School organized a session on 'Psychosexual development', for the students of class IX, on 26th November 2021. The resource person of the event was Dr. Shalini Ayappa, HOD of Psychology Department, St. Aloysius College Mangalore.
The session mainly focused on the topics like changes in the body, behavior, interest and their pre-occupations. The session helped students to understand the uneasiness they face, primary and secondary sexual changes. The insights from the session helped both the boys and girls to respect each other and understand what each of them go through, as an adult in future. The importance of boundaries, training the brain of what is important, was also pointed out. Some easy and normalizing perspectives were explained by the resource person. The interactive and informative session helped the students to clarify their doubts and concerns with the resource person. Ms Surya Mohan, Counselor of the school coordinated the programme.
